fixation friday: peanut better oreos

Todays Fixation Friday is a new obsession of mine. Last week M and I were grocery shopping and I got the huge urge for cookies. Needless to say I should have known that this urge meant one thing - Aunt Flo was on her way and I was not prepared. All the signs were there... I had pizza face, mood swings and a huge craving for chocolate. Needless to say the cookie isle is where I concentrated my focus and my dumb ass should have thought to grab tampons. This led to me heading home after the shopping trip, having to pee and promptly realizing that I had started my period. FML! I had just enough tampons to get me through the night, which meant I had to go to the store AGAIN and purchase more the next day. That really and truly grinds my gears! But I digress, this is a story about Peanut Butter Oreo fixation, NOT tampons, sorry to disappoint those of you waiting for the next tampon post.

Looking through the cookie isle took quite some time. M and I don't shop that department very often. Once in a blue moon actually. Well today folks the blue moon was on the rise and I was needing some serious chocolate satisfaction. I noticed that the cookie isle seems less stocked than it was when I was a teenager and could eat 10 lbs. of sweets without gaining a single pound. Less selection and less that seemed tasty to me. I used to be in love with Soft Batch cookies, but honestly once I read that you can have like 2 and it's over 100 calories I gave up on them. In all seriousness I'm not a big fan of Oreos - they always get stuck in your teeth and they aren't the right kind of chocolate to quench my cravings but, that changed last week. In the middle of the bajillion different Oreos to choose from sat a pack that read peanut butter filled. My heart raced. I haven't had a good chocolate cookie with peanut butter filling since the Keebler Elves got lazy and stopped making them. And let's be realistic none of them can compare to the ones the Girls Scouts sell - now those make me want to cry they are so good.

via bing • NOTE: The ones I purchased are NOT double stuffed

I grabbed the bag and declared that THESE were the cookies we would get. M looked at me disappointed and said something like "I really like regular Oreos better." My brain said "Tough shit, I'm buying these!"... but then I reasoned with my evil, inner only child and said to myself "Bitch don't be so rude, you love this guy, he pays half the rent and you should share." so instead I said to him in my outward voice "Well, if you really want those we can get them but I bet these will be good. How do you know if you don't like them, if you don't try them?" he agreed and all was well in the universe.

The rest of the trip was spent getting produce and other HEALTHY items for the house. Once we made it through the hell that is Wally World's check out and horrible driver parking lot USA we rushed home to enjoy the evening. I'd be lying if I said I waited until after dinner to try my new cookies. I actually opened them and ate a few while I put away the groceries. I have this horrible habit that when we come home with a bunch of great snacks or food - be it healthy or otherwise, I feel like I have to have one of everything, it's a horrible sickness. Thankfully I don't actually DO this, but it's a hard, hard urge to fight.

So there I am opening the package - which rocks because it reseals and you don't get gross cookies after 2 days. As I peeled back the wrapper I took a whiff of the cookies and I was immediately happy. One bite and ZOMG - HEAVEN! At least for me, the girl that really doesn't love Oreos was smitten with these. A sip of milk later and I had the perfect combo for a sweet snack.

Warning: 2 cookies is like 140 calories so if you're on a diet, watching your weight or strict on yourself with such things... DON'T purchase them unless you want to be a BFFFFF with your treadmill for a long time. This moment of weakness will lead to me taking my hips and buddah belly over to my elliptical and unleashing hell on myself for the next few weeks. Seriously.

Thankfully M loves these cookies too. I was worried that evil bag would only get eaten by me. We bought one more package on Wednesday but after this one is finished I'm going to have to STOP the insanity. Especially if I ever truly want to lose weight. I can't bring this stuff into the house if I'm serious about weight loss. Moderation sort of goes out the window with me when I have PMS. It's a known issue and I'm working on it.

But... if you love sweets and have the best metabolism on earth (and I will begin hating you, now!), then go for it.. eat up! They aren't Reese's Cups PB&Chocolate, but they are pretty damn good, IMO!

So there's my Friday Fixation - I'm ready to get home to my cookies and have a treat already and it's not even lunchtime yet! Actually it will probably be more like rush home for a tasty vodka beverage and relax on the front porch kind of night. I'm such a Southern Belle wanna be!

What's your favorite guilty snack pleasure?

Woman! dont be evil! Keep these things to yourself. My friend just gave me her entire Weight watchers kit for me to try...by the time I drink my coffee (with cream and 3 sugars) I'm already doing bad.

What I did found out is the awesomenes of Chocolate Cheerios. At least a handful will keep me from attacking the vending machine full force.

I did try the chocolate mousse temptations by jello...guacala (meaning gross) did not like that at all, no wonder is only 60 cals.

First of all I want to say that I adore reading your blog! You have the best stories, and I relate to you in so many ways {except that you are an Alabama fan...which I'm not sure I can handle...WAR EAGLE}

Anyways I just want you to know that I too have a serious issue with having to try each snack after I get home from the store and before I put them away...I truly believe it's an illness.

Those could be so dangerous! Peanut butter and chocolate are a deadly combo. My only hope is that my husband likes them more than I do...so that I don't have to eat the majority of them. Have a good weekend!

You crack me up! If only I could talk about peeing and periods on my blog, I'm just too chicken. Anywho, those Oreos sound amazing but I cannot have them in the house. My favorite guilty pleasure is taking a big spoon and dipping one half into a jar of PB and the other half into a jar of NUTELLA. The spread of the GODS. Then I slowly (ok, really quickly) lick it off. Heaven! I guess this is pretty much like the oreos minus cookie material. It is so good!!!

Sara that sounds SO good - I was drooling over the Nutella at the store the other day. You know your method would kill 2 birds with one stone without all the carbs!

Hopeless Domestic - I'm so glad I'm not alone. I won't let the Auburn thing come between us, at least not until football season ;) hehe.

Sonja - you are EVIL GIRL! That sounds really, really, reallllly good!

Nina - I've never liked mousse and I bet coming in the little jello containers I'd hate it even more. I like Sugar Free Jello and Sugar Free Pudding - not too bad but not as good real stuff. I have the same issue with coffee. creamer and three spoons of sugar. I tried to go sugar free again this AM and I just didn't enjoy it. I guess I could try to NOT have coffee but I don't think the world would survive!

Two voodoo pounds to each thigh for you Maam, you know the next time I pass the cookie aisle what I'm going for right?

Why oh Why did you just do this to me. Now, those damn cookies and I are going to have a showdown every time I pass them. Before reading this, I could have strolled by without a second glance. But now, NOW I am going to give that second glance.

Willpower. I need willpower.

Oh KELLY!! You know Mother Nature showed up in my bathroom at 6:30 this morning. And I have to go to Kroger anyway to buy newspapers to wrap coffee mugs in so now...it's destiny. Shame on you! Can't you share your fixation with cabbage or Zumba? ;) I guess we shall just live in the south and drink Sweet Tea vodka and be fat and happy together. Oh wells. I can think of about 83028472 worse things.

Hmmm . . . these look intriguing. I wonder if they sell them up here?

I'm a lover of Peanut Butter Pirate cookies, so these are just a short jump from those. May have to check them out. Thanks for the extra calories. What did I ever do to you???

I am a big fan of these keebler cookies with caramel in the middle and covered with chocolate. I can eat a package by myself, and as far as cookies go, they aren't cheap. They also have a pb version. I stay away from that aisle.

Allyson if I come to any spin classes (if you teach in your new home)... we won't get fat, just happy and hyper!!!

I don't obsess about cabbage, unless it's red cabbage - I would eat that entire thing like it was an apple!

McGriddle Pants said...

I gotta say, I'm amazed you waited until you got home!
I usually rip open those bags IN THE CAR!!
I'll have to give these bad boys a whirl!! :)
DIET BE DAMNED!

Girl - sometimes I can't wait. M and I have torn into a bag of chips before just because we were so excited about how they tasted. I really only waited because I wanted Milk :)

Lindsay said...

I'll have to try these! I always thought they might be gross only because I thought they'd taste like regular oreos with peanutbutter fluff but now that I think of it, I can see how they'd be good.

Except I would eat the whole bag - alone.

I had maple frosted donuts while I was on vacation and they were so yummy. They didn't have bacon, but I was telling everyone I was with about your bacon maple ones. Now I have to email everyone about these Oreos. They sound fabulous and I think you might be trying to make it your personal mission to make me fat.
