Ok, so the year I picked is a bit extreme. I have an oven and I have lots of modern gadgets. Which is all well and good - except yesterday in the middle of making a batch of cookies, my hand mixer crapped out on me. This does not make me happy. I've only completed two different types of cookies, (chocolate chip and snickerdoos) and it broke in the middle of making M's favorite peanut butter cookies that he was begging for. After a few choice curse words, I started stirring the dough by hand - crisis averted, for now. At least I'll get a good upper body work out in the process of this. I think I'm going to wait on the rest of the cookies until I return from my trip home for a weekend. Maybe my father will give me some money or gift cards for Christmas and I can buy a new hand mixer. Truth be told I would love a stand alone mixer but I have a hard time justifying the price for a nice one. My rule this time of year is that I'm not allowed to buy anything for myself this close to the holidays so I'll stick with that for now.
Maybe I can make my own butter while I'm at this old school baking. Not likely.

I hate when that happens. Although expensive, I think a stand alone mixer is totally worth it. I've been in an extramarital affair with my Kitchenaid Mixer for a few months now....
I think you're right... it would be worth it and besides looking at it in the corner of my kitchen everyday would make me smile!
ahhh, so dreaming of a KitchenAid Mixer. I was so freaking mad when a coworker told me they went to get it for our wedding and Bed bath and Beyond did not have it in stock, how could that be? (I know they weren't lying since their gift was equivalent to $300+) I so want one!!!
I was making cookies the other day and for some reason I lost my mind and forgot to pull out the mixer! My arm was so tired from creaming and stirring and mixing and suddenly, I looked down and was like "Dude! WHY am I stirring this by HAND?!?"
haha Jennifer! That's too funny. I will be mixing and creaming by hand the rest of this season. The sweat and tears better translate into love in my cookies!
Oh you poor thing! I would totally give you my hand mixer if I knew where it was (it's packed waaaaaaay back in the doldrums of storage) but I have to say, the kitchen aid is worth it, it really is. If you decide to go for, check the outlets for good sales and Kohls is another great place to look for discounted mixers (this year's black friday special was pretty good).
Great call girl - thank you!!! :)
holy crap! you mixed COOKIES by hand? what kind of weights are you lifting? i need to know.
i could never do that. i mean i'm strong and all but... wow. you go girl!
Trust me girl.. the only time it was easy was when I put the eggs in and it loosened up the batter! (I found that if I just used a regular metal spoon it worked great - screw trying to leverage that darn wooden spoon). Half way through M offered to help me but I was like "Nah I got this"... now I have one big arm and one little arm ;)
