This Friday's Fixation is all about MUSCLES. As in I want them, I love them and I have them but they are not in tight form yet and are all seriously sore.

Pretty much every muscle in this diagram from the waist down hurts. Seriously touch my leg and I might kick you, if I could. I can't stand up quickly, I can't walk correctly, it's more of a hobbit hobble, and don't even get me started on trying to use the restroom. Once I'm down on the toilet it's a trial to get back up. I feel like I'm 80, but I promise you I won't discuss my B.M.'s at great length to you, unless you want me to. Why do I always end up talking about bodily functions with you peeps?
The fronts of my legs are killing me. I have yet to discover if I'm doing something totally right with P90X or completely wrong. It's not true pain it's just true aching muscles. Only time will tell. This is only day 4, I hope this gets better. My arms feel great, they are definitely in the "good burn" category or the "good after workout sore" as are my abs, the legs I'm not so sure about.
Tonight is the Yoga X workout for P90X. I've never attempted to do yoga before, but my girl Salt is a seasoned vet when it comes to balance and all that jazz and I trust her taste because helloooo it's awesome. Let's hope I can survive. I know it won't be a walk in the park considering the letter X is attached to it, but I'm hoping it will stretch me out and relax me.
Do you have big weekend plans? Mike and I are planning on hitting up the creek again with our new kayaks, I really hope it happens or I know I will have one grumpy boyfriend on my hands. I hate when he's disappointed. I may or may not hit up the theater for SATC2 but honestly my thoughts are more on Get Him To the Greek. It's a tough toss up.
Happy Weekend Everyone! And if you happen to have a great cure for extremely sore muscles let a sister know. I'm on my way to the health food store to find a recovery drink after work, I hope it helps.

My weekend will consist of mopping oil, and dealing with a fisherman who can't fish, and a Captain, who can't Captain, and attempts to bargain with friends for Prozac, because he is driving me up the freaking wall! I love yoga, when i was religious about it, I was never happier, I slack now, and you must stay with it for the results. I love Salt, she is what you imply.
My mostly-uneducated guess is that your leg muscles are sore in a GOOD way, not that you did anything bad. They probably hurt more because you use them more/notice it more when you're walking around and such. Plus, the muscle groups in your lower half are bigger=more pain when they are getting stronger. I think you're good unless it becomes PAIN rather than aching soreness. You go girl.
You've found muscles you've never used before huh? I was constantly looking at diagrams to figure out what it was that was sore. Then I could at least sound smart when describing it, of course I forgot the names by the time I found anyone who would listen :)
I strongly recommend doing the stretch dvd on your rest day or doubling up on the first day of the 2nd week. Makes a huge difference!
cant wait to hear about the yoga! have a great weekend!!
this reminds me of the day before my graduation from grad school when I ran way longer than I should have and literally couldn't walk the next day! It was awful! ANd I'd bought some awesome new high heels and wasn't about to NOT wear those. So I suffered. :) HOpe it gets better!
i hear that p90 shit is no joke! i would try it but i don't wanna. haha! i like my muscles to be sore for other reasons...hey that sounded kinda dirty didn't it?
good luck with the yoga! that part sounds fun. and have yourself a kick ass weekend lovey!!!
Have you been doing all your stretches? Even if you do, your muscles will still ache at first because it is in 'shock' of how much you have been using them. Well that's what a fitness instructor told me at the gym when I was feeling a little pain. So just remember to keep doing your stretches during the day (not just after the workout) and have plenty of rest. I hope you feel better soon x
I've never tried this, but I used to work in a gym and the trainers used to say to take a hot bath with mustard powder and it would help the soreness. Also, when I was running we used to take ice baths to keep from getting too sore. I was too chicken to use ice cubes, but I would run the water as cold as possible and sit in it for as long as I could stand. Good luck...it will get better...right? And hey, maybe you can't move, but you'll look hot!
Shana if I take a bath in mustard powder and someone calls me a hotdog I'm going to slap you ;) haha!
Thank you everyone. Yoga was amazing I've never felt so good after a workout. I adored it!
Ahhh, I was going to buy the Zumba DVD but hubby says maybe we should give P90X a try...I think we are to out of shape to try it yet.
Hope you feel better soon!
Nina I am SO out of shape. My advice see if someone has one you can borrow, or at least the book to do the fitness test first. Try it out. The biggest thing is not to hurt yourself. He always says "Do your best and forget the rest" and it's true.
As per your text the other night...I am SO GLAD you loved the yoga! If you come to visit this summer, M-squared can hang out while I drag you to a hot class with me!
I will only go if you put me allllll the way in the back. This means I have to go shopping for proper yoga gear. Guess that's a good excuse ;)
It sounds to me like you've got the P90X down! Everyone I know who has done it was in intense pain! You are now motivating me, sister! Hope your weekend was awesome!
I love muscles. I have good quads. That's it, though.
heh
Hey girl!! :) Did ya'll get to go kayaking? :) I am so ready to go again- I haven't been in forever! :)
Ahh, I know the feeling. I always overdue it when I start working out again and then pay dearly. Hope the sore eases soon!
so get this, i played college soccer and have always been fairly active in general, right? well, about a year or so ago, i wanted to try this "step aerobics" class. (you know, the kind where you step up and down on those plastic risers?) okay, so i go in there all like, "i'm so fit and strong and in shape, i'm going to put my riser up three blocks." (the highest in the class. big mistake.) so i go through the hour class feeling good and kicking ass.
well, the next day, my calves hurt so bad. like i can't walk, and i have to walk on my tip-toes because i can't even flatten my foot to the ground because it hurts my calves so much. my calves swelled up to double their normal size. as the day progresses, i hit the 24-hour after my workout mark and dark bruises have started to show all over my calves. the bruises get worse - like black and blue and dark purple. i called my orthopedic surgeon to ask wtf was going on because my calves are swelling or falling off. basically, when we lift weights or workout, we build muscle. and in order to build muscle, muscle fibers have to break down. well, i had ripped my calf muscles to shreds hence all the bruising!!!!!!! of all the years i've been put through terrible workouts, this was by far one of the worst.
When I work out and hurt, I always connect that with looking good. So then I look down at myself and I'm pissed. It shouldn't take so long to get good results!
OUCHIE, feel better soon!
Found your blog through A Blonde Ambition! Glad to be reading! Love the Dare to be Domestic theme! I am far from Domestic! xo
thanks for sharing x
Okay, this comment has absolutely NOTHING to do with this post...
BUT when I was at the beach this past week, we picked up some sweet tea vodka - Jeremiah Weed, to be exact - at the liquor store and I would never have gotten it if it weren't for your recommendation. I kept saying, "Kelly said it was really good." And you know what? It was AWESOME. I will definitely be getting some more.
Cheers lady!
Yay for muscles! I'm working on mine too. Good luck with the P90X, I hear it's a great workout!
I know this pain! I actually had to call in sick to work 2 days after my first "strength building" work-out. I literally could not stand up.
Crazy - but it has gotten better. I'm sure you're finding the same thing.
