January 08, 2010

the tide is high.

First off I have to say congratulations to the University of Alabama and Nick Saban. What a great year and what a wild ride! Last night's game had me on the edge of my seat, even if I was fighting sleep due to cold medication I took before the game was over. (Note: I think I feel like ass, if this is what ass feels like!)

Texas put up one hell of a fight! I felt absolutely horrible when Colt McCoy (Texas QB) was taken out in the beginning of the game. My heart actually ached for him - here it is his senior year, his last game as the Texas QB and he's in a championship game. Due to a shoulder injury he was benched for the rest of the game. Which I think was smart, he has a future in the NFL, a very bright future and better to sit it out and risk this Championship than to risk his career after college is over. That being said I really wish he would have been able to play the entire game vs. being forced to sit there and watch it. I could see the pain in his eyes, it was emotional, not physical. Once out they brought in Gilbert, his back up QB and I must say for a "TRUE FRESHMAN" this kid has spunk and a great arm. I expect great things from him next year.

I am extremely proud of my favorite SEC Team The ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE! SEC stands for South East Conference for those of you that were wondering (Monique & Salt) - and even though I'm a East Coast girl by birth and at heart, I'm truly a believer that the SEC is the best college conference in the USA.

If anyone had a doubt in their mind as to why Mark Ingram #22 (Alabama) won the Heisman Trophy Award this year - I think you got your answer during this game - INGRAM WAS ON FIRE! He truly was MVP! I'm happy to see that when he's out though that we have one hell of a guy to pick up his slack Richardson rocked that field as well last night. Go #3!

I really thought we had screwed ourselves in the third quarter - Texas made an amazing come back and didn't look like they would be slowing down. Thankfully we capitalized on a few of Texas' mistakes (like they capitalized on ours) and were able to get the lead back, and quickly in the 4th quarter!

Both teams put up a tremendous fight and I'm proud of all of them! Well done Alabama. Thank you for bring home a 13th College Championship Title and Trophy to UA! I can only imagine the mayhem around the Tuscaloosa, AL campus last night - from what I hear it was CRAZY! It's been a long time coming from what everyone here tells me. A tradition and legacy that can feel like they are on top of the world again. So thank you Mr. Saban and thank you to the entire team for an awesome year! And for an awesome 2 seasons. I hope to be there this fall to witness the magic that is the Crimson Tide!

Bottom line - I adore football but I'm actually REALLY happy the season is over. My nerves can't take any more of this stress. Seriously I have a football induced ulcer I'm convinced of this (or maybe it's just from all the buffalo sauce I've ingested this year). I get WAY too passionate for my own good. For the rest of the season I will root for the Colts to make it into the Super Bowl (since my Steelers are out of the running) but I won't lose sleep if they don't.

Now I can focus on to getting better and feeling better (I have the funk right now) and using my weekends to the fullest. Since fall I've been spending lots of time watching football games and not being as active but it was worth it! Now I just have to make up for lost time.

I leave you with a final... ROLL TIDE ROLL!

I completely agree with you about Colt McCoy - I think it's awesome that you're an Alabama fan but you still wanted him to have that game... I really felt for him yesterday - I can only imagine how hard that must have been for him to just have to sit there and watch and not be able to play.
I love that you love football!! I do, too! I'm from the midwest (and thus, a Big Ten girl!!) and now that I live out in San Francisco, I have a lot of trouble finding friends to watch football with. Seriously, I have 5 friends who like football. That's it. The rest of them could care less. I do not understand...

Yay for you!! Since Bama is SEC, too, we were rooting for you all. It was a good game once the back up QB got the hang of things. I gotta say though, if I hear 'true freshman' one more time, I'm going to hit Lou Holtz in the face.

Thank you for clearing that up!!! :) That one day when we all got together at Green Turtle I was a fan of your team. I always think of you guys when I see them on TV and secretly hope that they win. :)

I think my apathy towards college ball mostly has to do with the fact that I didn't go to a college that had any decent team sports I know you can relate to that. ;) Just give me my NFL and I'm a happy gal.

I know what you mean Salt. In HS and college I always rooted for UNC - I still do. (I really wish I would have gone there for college, but I did love our school). M's dad has told me that is ok to still root for UNC because they aren't in our conference. haha. You should be happy about AL as well because one of your Ravens, LeRon McClain played for the Univ. of Alabama :)

Kateyleigh - that is so horrible. Trust me when I first moved here to AL 5 years ago I didn't have many people to watch football with with either. It's huge here but at the time M wasn't that into football. He started to get more into it when I would watch NFL FB and some how we started getting really into the games for Alabama in the past three years. Now we're both smitten and it's how we spend our WHOLE weekend. Which can make things hard. Bottom line Colt McCoy is an amazing player and even if he was the opposing team the true spirit of the game is what it's all about it and he deserved that moment to shine it stinks it was taken away from him. I however don't agree with the announcers and other people saying that TX would have won hands down if Colt was in the game. I KNEW people would say that. I think it would have been a toss up had he been in and it would have been decided on the field. FB isn't about ONE PERSON (ya hear that Urban and Tim ?!?!?) it's about the TEAM together.

Beth - I hate that term too "TRUE FRESHMAN" but I guess they wanted to get the idea across that this kid is totally wet behind the ears and hanging with the big dogs.

oh dear. sports talk. I have nothing intelligent to contribute EXCEPT that B asks my pick for every game and I am 100% always right.

Welcome to SITS! It's great to have you in the SITStahood!

MODG - Do you choose based on colors? That's what I do when I don't know the team and it's ALWAYS a winner!!! Maybe we should get together and bet on some games!

Thank you Sandy!!! ox

ROLL TIDE!!!
Like you, I felt terrible for Colt. Class act, he is!
Speaking of class acts, Mark Ingram. Can I get an Amen? My son and him have speech class together at Bama, says he is as great a guy off the field as he is on.

so excited for Alabama! our company is based out of Alabama and naturally, I was rooting for them all the way! I had to leave in the middle of the first quarter to go to my spin class, got to the gym right when 'bama made their first touchdown, and made it back to the car to listen to the start of the second half on my way home! so exciting! great game! roll tide!!!

xoxo
