giving it up... for 40 days.

First let me start by saying this, I'm not Catholic and I've never participated in Lent. I've had my share of Fat Tuesdays in the past but I've never had an Ash Wednesday. Although this year for the hell of it I thought I would play along with Lent proceedings and pick something to give up for 40 days. I do like the message behind Lent and in a land of excess and greed it feels good to give something up instead of insisting on taking more in.

My item to give up for Lent is simple....
I'm not going to use sugar in my coffee for 40 days.

Why? Find out here.

So what are you giving up for Lent if anything?

Kudos to you. I was raised Catholic and I never gave up a damn thing for Lent. ;)

I'm giving up my innate ability to worry about things that I have no control over. It's seriously kind of a big deal for me.... But, two years ago, I gave up buying shoes. And that was kind of a big deal too. :)

I am Catholic and have a long history of giving up things for Lent, some years are a bit more creative than others. This year, I'm limiting my time online, specifically not visiting a few certain sites that are major time sucks for me :)
Good luck with no sugar, I agree with PP-honey and agave nectar are great alternatives.

I'd kill someone dead before giving up coffee. But I've also got a 19 lb excuse to indulge everyday. I grew up Catholic and "gave up" stuff every year but never anything that was actually a sacrifice. This year it's fried foods because 1) I want to see if I can do it 2) I want to see if I can lose a few. Good enough reasons for me. Good luck lady!

I always do Lent, but not this year! I think being pregnant gives me an opt out clause, right?
